Exploring our sense of smell with the wonders of nature

Our week of exploring the senses continues with a 'scent tray' activity.

We did this activity together by picking some lavender and other flowers from our garden. We also took some vanilla bean, cinnamon sticks, and bay leaves from our spice cabinet. Biscuit LOVED the smell of the lavender, just like her mommy, and she was very intrigued by the vanilla bean. Here is a look at our scent plate.

Isn't it pretty?
If only a laptop had "smell-vision!"

  1. I'm so going to try this with one of my little clients that's blind. He picks up smells that don't even cross my radar- but I'm trying to get him to understand what I mean by labelling it "a smell" and be able to describe them. This would be a great way to connect smells to his environment!
